      Multi-Intenso

Two classes, 1-3:30 and 4-6:30p - The first class will be a New York Multi-Intenso drop in version of the class experience with bonus pranayama and meditation material. In the second we will get down to the nitty gritty of how to self adjust and measure.

Multi- Intenso is a multi-dimensional-Vinyasa practice. A typical class starts with a fluid rhythmic warm up: we start on the back, move to the seat, to the feet, to the hands, to build heat, locate the lift of the pelvic floor, and the stability of the floor beneath, to stabilize the foundations and peaks of the more advanced postures to follow. We continue with Surya Namaskar "X" and "V". Surya Namaskar with a few modifications to develop the muscular coordination, geometric imagination, uplifting stimulation, and north star navigation of mula bhanda. The following standing and seated posture series has longer holds, deeper folds, more pegs to fit into their respective holes, so we measure the postures in various ways to be sure that we are building a "postural" practice to keep us upright, bright, and bold as we grow old. The ultimate goal of the class is to find center, be well adjusted, and to tap into the vast potential of the yoga practice. I teach some of the basics of Nevine' Michaaan's "Esoteric Taoist Yoga" and integrate them within the template of an exhilarating vinyasa series. The flow of vinyasa gains potency and purpose when we refine the architectural stability of foundational postures. With the knowledge that we are made to fit, and the tools of measure*, contact*, and imagination*, we can develop our skill in practice and apply to our everyday lives. When we are "off" we can put ourselves back on, when we are down we can uplift, when we are nervous- sooth, too high - ground, tune for resonance and clear sound, gain access to our insight /out-sight, be profound and still hold it down . I believe that the spiritual and physical are not distinct but very much interrelated: posture adjusts vision, perception, emotion, experience, health, and integration of self as a functional stable contribution to the whole.

David Regelin began practicing yoga in the year 2000. At the time he was feeling a disconnection between body and soul. He started one day with a basics class, in which he wore shorts with no underwear. However, he had not envisioned the downward facing dog. Needless to say, the woman behind him was mortified. From that day on, he realized two very important things; that from that day on yoga would become a necessary component in his well being, and that he should wear underwear while practicing.

In 2003, he completed his teacher training at Laughing Lotus, in order to "deepen my practice", but secretly desired to lead his own classes, and to give people an experience that was unlike another.

As a practitioner of kung fu, the choreographed forms and purposeful sequences of movements inspired him to explore the full potential of vinyasa sequencing. Also, as a musician and singer, decided to set his classes to music, and use his voice to lend rhythm and structure.

New York yogi's are lucky to be able to study and practice with a variety of yoga teachers, and styles. David is no exception, and has immersed himself in assortment of different practices; Kung fu , Bagua, Muay Thai, and Pilates to name a few. However, do not mistake his class as a martial arts/yoga hybrid, he draws inspiration from many different forms.

Over time, David has developed an evolving series of postures, with a precise articulation, the result being a teaching style named Multi-Intenso. Intense in multiple ways, this practice incorporates dialog, music, a whole bunch of inversions, and sequencing, which leaves an imprint on your brain and body. www.multi-intenso.com

What is actually happening when you stretch? A one-day tour of the new research on fascia and what it points to in terms of fascial health and the intricate and dynamic relationship among muscle, bone, and connective tissue. Learn about tensegrity, viscoelasticity, and the surprising ways that fascia moves and remodels under the influence of sustained stretch or exercise. Our ideas about fascia and what contributes to fascial health are changing rapidly, from skin to bone. Come get the latest and test it against your experience of yoga, Pilates, and athletic conditioning.

Sun Oct 10th 10a - 4p: Touch Cueing for Asana

Touching your students skillfully is not often a major feature of many yoga-teacher trainings. Yet your touch - correctly applied -can make all the difference when added to your verbal directions. This course is designed to educate the yoga teacher in unique and varying ways to adjust students in order to deepen the poses and help students find new space in the body or in the asana.

Add to your touch ‘vocabulary’ by learning to convey movement and space through your hands in differing ways:

      • Directional touch (including the use of a yoga belt)
      • Deep touch to help students find ‘lost’ part of their core
      • Touch for movement to help stuck parts of the body move in proper sequence

This course includes how to ‘treat’ excess curves with font-back touch, shifts with side-to-side touch, and rotations with asymmetrical touch. Also included are spots to invoke core awareness and images to evoke new movement.

Thomas Myers studied with Drs. Ida Rolf, Moshe Feldenkrais, and Buckminster Fuller, and has practiced integrative bodywork for over 30 years in Europe, the UK, and the USA. He incorporates many movement and manual disciplines. Tom is the author of the best-selling book, Anatomy Trains (Elsevier 2001), as well as over 60 articles for trade magazines and journals, and a dozen video programs on fascial technique and dissection. He directs Kinesis and lives with his wife, Quan, on the coast of Maine. www.anatomytrains.com

Introduction to Ashtanga Vinyasa- All Levels

Ashtanga Yoga is the mother of Vinyasa styles of yoga, originating in the south Indian city of Mysore. The method of Ashtanga consists of a series of classical yoga postures linked together by a coordination of breath and movement called Vinyasa. The moving meditation of the practice creates internal heat to eliminate toxins, improve digestion, and clarify the mind.

In this workshop, Kate will introduce the introductory postures (including modifications for safety), Drishti (gazing points for the eyes), and the Ujaayi breathing technique that illuminates the bandhas (internal energy centers corresponding to the chakras). Kate will also share stories of Mysore and the authentic lineage of Ashtanga.

Experiencing the method of Ashtanga yoga offers skills that will strengthen any style of yoga practice, and brings a deeper knowledge of the traditions behind Vinyasa yoga.

      Ayurveda for Health and Happiness

      images of kate ODonnell

This experiential workshop will introduce the fundamentals of Ayurveda, India’s ancient healing system, and how to implement them in your own life. Ayurveda follows nature’s rhythms- seasonal changes, sunrise to sunset, phases of life, etc. to maintain optimal health. Through eating and acting in accordance with natural rhythms, human beings find happiness. What are these rhythms and how can we adapt our busy lives to stay balanced?

Fall, the change into winter season, is an important time to begin some simple, preventative measures that will increase digestion and immunity, and support you all winter long. In this workshop you will:

      • Discover your Ayurvedic constitution: how You (mind, body, and emotions) are made up of a unique combination of nature’s elements.
      • Personalize an Ayurvedic routine based on your constitution (Prakriti), and the season.
      • Explore diet, yoga postures, self-massage, and breathwork to help you maintain ease and grace.

The rhythms of nature are also the rhythms of human nature- get in sync!

Kate O'Donnell began yoga by accident in South India at age 20. Over a decade of studying Ashtanga yoga and the wisdom traditions of India support Kate’s understanding of the soul sisters: Yoga and Ayurveda. Her personal healing with a doctor in Mysore, India led to a love for the ancient healing system and inspired her to pursue studies at the Kripalu School of Ayurveda. Kate is a Certified Ayurvedic Consultant and Yoga Specialist, as well as an Authorized teacher of Ashtanga Yoga who continues to travel to India regularly for study. Her Ayurvedic lifestyle intensives, diet, and yoga workshops in the Boston area aim to help others come closer to their true nature.
